Alaska Bar Exam Format

The Alaska Bar Exam is a 2 1/2 day test. Days 1 and 3 of the Alaska Bar Exam consist of nine essay questions including three long essays, six short essays, and two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test problems. Alaska Bar Exam Grading Info

To determine whether an applicant passes the Alaska Bar Exam, MBE and essay scores averaged. A combined score of 140 is required. Scoring is broken down as follows: The MBE is worth 50% of the scoring; 3 long essays are worth 15%; 6 short essays are worth 22.5%; and the MPT's is worth 12.5% combined.

MPRE Requirements

Alaska Bar Exam MBE Reciprocity

Does not accept MBE from other jurisdictions.

Alaska Bar Exam Reciprocity

To be eligible for admission without taking the Alaska Bar Exam (commonly called reciprocity), the applicant must have taken and passed a written bar exam in a reciprocal state or D.C. and have engaged in the active practice of law for 5 of the 7 years in any jurisdiction preceding application. The applicant must also have passed the MPRE and meet other admission requirements.
